It’s been about a month since I posted my Dragoncon State of the Union. I thought it was time to update since then.
As a reminder:
I put everything on hold for about 2 weeks while I quickly whipped up a Misato costume for Anime Blues Con this coming weekend. It was nice to take a break from stuff and work on something simple.
1. Dr Crusher:
Suit is still in the same condition as last post – I still need to put the shoulder pads in and the elastic on the legs.
I got my labcoat made! Yay! I got my wig in, looks good but needs trimmed and styled. Got my pips and communicator in! They’re lovely, though I think I may switch the communicator from velcro backing to magnets.
So next weekend I may buckle down and finish those last things – style the wig and finishings on the suit.
2. Hera:
Made some progress on Hera since last post. I bought some fabric online, it arrived and was way too thick. So I picked out some new fabric in Nashville weekend before last. It’s too thin, so I’ll have to flat-line it, so I went ahead and got some cotton for tohat, too.
I did make a mock up of the jacket out of scrap fabric. It’s close enough I feel good moving ahead with the real fabric next…
Outside of that, haven’t done anything else. Need to buy my makeup, find some boots, pants and gloves. Boots and gloves I’ll probably be modifying. Haven’t quite figured that part out yet.
3. Padme Lake:
I have the underdress assembled, though not finished. Was having some issues with getting the lining attached at the bottom… so I kinda set it aside for a bit and worked on other things. I pulled out my old version 3 outer dress and ironed it, got it pinned on around the new underdress – it needs some tweaks but I think it will work fine as a basis for making new outer dress patterns. I was just gifted a ton of lining fabric so I have plenty of scrap fabric to work with to make new patterns – I’m looking forward to get this dialed in.
I got my wig and extensions! And -big news reveal- we’re getting a 3d printer. It’s arriving this week! AHH! So Chase is going to be playing with printing the necklace and armbands for me. YAY.
4. Belle:
Sooooo. Yeah. I’m kinda thinking of dropping Belle for this Dragoncon. Probably finishing her for MCFC later this year. I’m just NOT feeling like cramming 3.5 more costumes into the next month and a half. 2.5 is more do-able. And I’m just… not feeling it at the moment. My focus is on other things and doesn’t feel thinking about this. I think part of it is because I’m already starting to feel like my Dcon schedule – and my travel bin – are getting too full. This one will be a large-ish costume in very wrinkle-able fabric, a styled wig… yeah.
I’m not totally calling it yet, but it’s likely this is going to get pushed back.
5. Jedi Leia is DONE! Doesn’t need anything.
6. Carrie will be the same as last year however after my success of dyeing my Crait Leia wig, I’m thinking ab out also dyeing this one too. Just darken it up a little.
7. Crait Leia:
Sewing-wise, still in the same shape as last post. I still haven’t gotten that other sleeve on or hemmed it. I just need to set aside the time and do it.
But as I just mentioned I DID get my wigs dyed! I was so scared to do it I kept putting it off! But they turned out good! They definitely need some restyling after being in boiling water (they currently looking witch/hag wigs…) so that’s another thing I need to just sit down and do one day soon.
8. Donna – same old same old.
So yeah If I drop Belle that’s only 7 costumes and it feels much more manageable. (Actually probably 8 including the silly group costume, if that still happens). I just really want things to be easy this year, things that are comfortable, things I can be mobile in (aka walk to the dealer’s room without having heat stroke in).
AS with the past few years I’m trying to keep my schedule pretty clear. Schedule so far:
Arriving wednesday night, late.
Thursday no plans except badge pickup. I’ll probably throw on a couple of costumes thursday afternoon/night. I may wear Crait this night to get it out of the way.
Friday the Leia group shoot is that morning, dunno if I’ll do Jedi or Carrie. Friday afternoon Lore Olympus shoot (just realized it moved off Sunday which is a little frustrating since now I have 2 things on friday… here’s hoping Padme shoot isn’t also friday.)
Saturday no plans.
Sunday no plans.
I’m holding out for seeing when the Padme shoot is going to be, and we’re planning on doing a couple of photo-ops so I’m trying to keep my schedule open for that.
